Privacy, without fine print.

SnapTrellis keeps your screenshots on your Mac. Designed Calm LLC never receives them.

The short version

• No account, analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs.
• Your screenshots, labels, markers, notes, and groups stay on your Mac until you copy, drag, save, or share them.
• The only network connection is to Apple’s App Store, for the free trial, the unlock, and restoring purchases. Apple handles payment. We never see your card or Apple Account details.

Data collection

Designed Calm LLC does not collect, receive, or store your screenshots or their contents. Screenshots may contain personal information, which SnapTrellis processes only on your Mac. The app does not send screenshots, groups, labels, markers, notes, annotations, usage information, or device information to Designed Calm LLC or anyone else.

Screen content

SnapTrellis creates still screenshots only when you ask for a capture. To capture an area, it briefly holds a still image of one display in memory so you can drag a rectangle, then saves only that area. Cancelling saves nothing. A full-screen capture saves a still image of that display. Capture Same Spot Again reuses the area you last chose. SnapTrellis never records your screen continuously, and never records video or audio.

When you capture, SnapTrellis notes the name of the app you were using, such as “Mail,” to name new groups (for example, “Mail · 9:41 AM”). That name stays on your Mac with the group.

Captures, original images, annotations, and merged images are stored in the app’s sandboxed Application Support folder on your Mac. If that storage can’t be set up, the app uses temporary storage on your Mac and shows a notice.

When you copy, drag, save, or share a screenshot, a merged image, or an editable project, the copy belongs to wherever you send it, under that app or service’s own privacy practices. Editable projects include the original images and your edits. Marking a screenshot Sensitive hides it inside SnapTrellis; it doesn’t encrypt the original.

The clipboard

By default, each new capture is copied to your clipboard so you can paste it right away. You can turn this off with Settings > Copy Each Capture to Clipboard. Screenshots marked Sensitive are never copied automatically. If you use Universal Clipboard, macOS can make your clipboard available on your other Apple devices; you control that in System Settings.

Your Mac’s own screenshots (optional)

If you turn on Collect Mac Screenshots, you choose the folder your Mac saves screenshots to. SnapTrellis keeps permission to read only that folder. It watches for new screenshots, recognized by the tag macOS puts on them or by a name starting with “Screenshot,” and adds a copy of each one to SnapTrellis. Screenshots that were already there, and files that aren’t screenshots, are left alone. The originals are never moved, changed, or deleted. You can turn collecting off at any time.

Free trial and purchases

Starting with version 1.1, SnapTrellis uses Apple’s StoreKit to start the free 14-day trial, unlock the app, restore purchases, and check whether you bought an earlier version. This is the app’s only network connection, and it goes to Apple. Links you click in the app, such as Help, open in your web browser. Apple processes your payment and Apple Account information under Apple’s own privacy policy. Designed Calm LLC never sees your payment details, name, or email address. Apple gives us sales reports with totals, such as how many trials started in each country, that don’t identify you. SnapTrellis remembers on your Mac whether it has been unlocked. Version 1.0 made no network requests at all.

Until SnapTrellis is unlocked, merged images carry a small “Made with SnapTrellis · snaptrellis.com” line at the bottom. It’s plain text in the picture, with no link, tracking code, or identifier.

Ratings

Now and then, SnapTrellis may show Apple’s standard prompt asking for a rating. Apple runs the prompt and receives your rating. You can turn these prompts off in the App Store app’s settings.

Crash reports

If you’ve chosen to share crash data with app developers in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements, Apple may pass crash reports for SnapTrellis to Designed Calm LLC. Those reports come from Apple; SnapTrellis adds nothing to them.

Permissions

SnapTrellis asks for macOS Screen Recording permission so it can take the still captures you ask for. It doesn’t record video or audio, and you can revoke the permission in System Settings at any time. Folder access is used only if you turn on Collect Mac Screenshots, and only for the folder you choose. SnapTrellis doesn’t ask for Accessibility, Full Disk Access, your contacts, location, camera, or microphone.

Deletion

Screenshots in your Trellis aren’t removed automatically. When you finish a screenshot, it stays in History (Recently Finished) for seven days, then it’s removed the next time SnapTrellis loads your library. Temporary copies made for sharing are cleaned up after seven days, when new ones are made. Cleanup happens while the app runs; there’s no background service.

Copies you’ve saved or shared elsewhere, including backups, aren’t removed by SnapTrellis’s cleanup. Deleting the app may leave its sandboxed data behind until you or macOS remove the app’s container.

Children

SnapTrellis is a general-purpose Mac app. Designed Calm LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, through the app.

Changes and contact
